Class 6: How We Are to Live – The Epistles

Theme: Living for Jesus Today

Overview:

This class teaches children how to follow Jesus in everyday life. Through lessons from the Epistles, kids will learn about the Holy Spirit, loving others, growing in character, and standing strong in faith. These lessons provide practical tools to live as part of God’s family and shine His light in the world.

Week 1: The Holy Spirit – Our Helper and Guide

Scripture: Acts 2:1–4; John 14:16–17

Memory Verse: “But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things.” – John 14:26

Lesson Focus: The Holy Spirit helps us understand God’s Word, guides our choices, and gives us strength to follow Jesus.

Faith Connection: Children learn that they are never alone — God is with them through His Spirit.

Activity Ideas:

  • “Spirit Wind” craft — blow colored tissue paper or streamers to show the Holy Spirit moving.

  • “Holy Spirit Helper” role-play scenarios — practice listening and obeying God’s guidance.

Week 2: Loving One Another – God’s Command

Scripture: 1 Corinthians 13

Memory Verse: “And now abideth faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of these is charity (love).” – 1 Corinthians 13:13

Lesson Focus: God calls us to love others as He loves us — with patience, kindness, and forgiveness.

Faith Connection: Children see that love is action, not just words.

Activity Ideas:

  • “Love in Action” challenge — do one kind act for someone each day and track it on a chart.

  • Make “Love Bracelets” for friends or family members with Bible verses about love.

Week 3: The Armor of God – Standing Strong in Faith

Scripture: Ephesians 6:10–18

Memory Verse: “Put on the whole armor of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.” – Ephesians 6:11

Lesson Focus: God equips us to face challenges and stand firm in our faith through prayer, the Word, and His protection.

Faith Connection: Children learn that God gives them spiritual tools to live boldly and faithfully.

Activity Ideas:

  • “Armor of God” dress-up or paper craft — label each piece with its purpose (helmet of salvation, sword of the Spirit, etc.).

  • Role-play scenarios practicing courage and standing firm in faith.

Week 4: Fruit of the Spirit – Growing Like Jesus

Scripture: Galatians 5:22–23

Memory Verse: “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance.” – Galatians 5:22–23

Lesson Focus: God wants us to live in a way that reflects Jesus’ character through our words, actions, and attitudes.

Faith Connection: Children learn that living by the Spirit produces love, joy, and good fruit in everyday life.

Activity Ideas:

  • “Fruit of the Spirit Tree” craft — add leaves labeled with each fruit as children learn them.

  • “Spirit Fruit Challenge” — practice one fruit of the Spirit each day for a week and share experiences.

Parent Connection

Each week includes a “Family Faith Challenge” to encourage daily practice of biblical habits:

  • Pray together, asking God to help grow the fruit of the Spirit in each child.

  • Encourage children to identify ways to love, forgive, and serve others at home, school, or church.

  • Practice memorizing one verse together each week and display it in the home.

  • Talk about ways the family can stand firm in faith and share God’s love with others.

Class Summary:

By the end of this four-week class, children will:

  • Understand how the Holy Spirit guides and helps them.

  • Know that God calls them to love others actively.

  • Learn how to stand firm in faith through the Armor of God.

  • See what it means to live by the Fruit of the Spirit in everyday life.
