Class 5: The Gospel – The Savior Comes, Shows the Way, and Brings Hope of the Resurrection

Theme: Salvation, Love, and New Life in Jesus

Overview:

This class brings children face to face with the life of Jesus — from His miraculous birth to His resurrection. Kids will learn that Jesus is the fulfillment of every promise, the perfect example of God’s love, and the only way to eternal life.

Week 1: Jesus Is Born – God’s Promise Fulfilled

Scripture: Luke 2:1–20; Matthew 1:18–25

Memory Verse: “For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, which is Christ the Lord.” – Luke 2:11

Lesson Focus: Jesus’ birth was the moment God’s plan of salvation stepped into the world — the light of heaven coming to earth.

Faith Connection: God always keeps His promises, and He sent Jesus because He loves us deeply.

Activity Ideas:

  • “Nativity in a Bag” craft — create small paper cutouts to retell the birth story.

  • “Good News Shout” game — kids pass a message of joy around the room, symbolizing the angels spreading the good news.

Week 2: Jesus Teaches Us How to Live

Scripture: Matthew 5:1–12; Luke 6:27–36

Memory Verse: “Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you.” – Luke 6:27

Lesson Focus: Through the Beatitudes and His teachings, Jesus showed us what it means to live with love, kindness, humility, and forgiveness.

Faith Connection: Jesus teaches us how to live in a way that reflects God’s heart.

Activity Ideas:

  • “Beatitude Blessing Cards” – children make cards illustrating each blessing.

  • “Kindness in Action” challenge — do one kind thing for someone each day.

Week 3: Jesus Shows His Power and Compassion

Scripture: Mark 4:35–41; Luke 8:40–56; John 6:1–14

Lesson Focus: Jesus’ miracles show that He is both powerful and compassionate — He calmed storms, healed the sick, and fed the hungry.

Faith Connection: Jesus cares about every detail of our lives and has power over all things.

  • “Storm in a Bottle” science craft to represent Jesus calming the storm.

  • “Loaves and Fish Sharing Game” — practice generosity and sharing.

Week 4: Jesus Dies and Rises Again – Our Hope of New Life

Scripture: Luke 23:33–46; Matthew 28:1–10

Memory Verse: “He is not here; He has risen, just as He said.” – Matthew 28:6

Lesson Focus: Jesus’ death on the cross was the greatest act of love — and His resurrection gives us victory over sin and death.

Faith Connection: Because Jesus lives, we can live with Him forever.

Activity Ideas:

  • “Empty Tomb” craft using paper plates or a small box.

  • “New Life Garden” – plant seeds as a symbol of resurrection and new beginnings.

Parent Connection

Each week includes a “Family Faith Challenge” to strengthen understanding and keep the Gospel message alive at home:

  • Read a Gospel story together and talk about what it shows about Jesus’ character.

  • Write a short family prayer thanking Jesus for His love and forgiveness.

  • Celebrate a “Resurrection Day” every month — a mini reminder that Jesus lives!

  • Practice serving others as a family, just as Jesus served.
