Class 1: Creation – In the Beginning

Theme: God’s Power, Love, and Design

Overview:

This first class introduces children to the true story of how life began. Through four weekly lessons, little believers will discover that God created everything good, that people were made in His image, and that even when sin entered the world, God had a rescue plan already in place.

Week 1: God Made the World

Scripture: Genesis 1

Memory Verse: “In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.” – Genesis 1:1

Lesson Focus: God is the Creator of everything we see — light, sky, land, sea, plants, animals, and people. Everything He made was good.

Faith Connection: Children learn that God made the world out of love and purpose, not by accident.

Activity Ideas:

  • “Creation Collage” – draw or cut out pictures of things God made on each of the six days.

  • “Creation Song” – a simple chant or rhythm to help remember each day’s creation order.

Week 2: God Made People in His Image

Scripture: Genesis 1:26–27; 2:7, 15–25

Memory Verse: “I will praise Thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made.” – Psalm 139:14

Lesson Focus: God made Adam and Eve special, breathing His own life into them. We are made to reflect God’s love, creativity, and goodness.

Faith Connection: Children see that every person has value because we are all made in God’s image.

Activity Ideas:

  • “Mirror Message” – decorate paper mirrors that say, “I am made in God’s image.”

  • “Garden Game” – build a paper garden and talk about Adam’s job to care for it.

Week 3: The First Sin

Scripture: Genesis 3:1–13

Memory Verse: “All have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.” – Romans 3:23

Lesson Focus: Adam and Eve disobeyed God, bringing sin into the world. Sin separates us from God, but He still loves us and promises a way back.

Faith Connection: Children understand that God’s love never fails, even when we make wrong choices.

Activity Ideas:

  • “Right Choice vs. Wrong Choice” sorting game.

  • “Hide and Seek” – a fun way to explain how God came looking for Adam and Eve because He still cared for them.

Week 4: God’s Promise to Save Us

Scripture: Genesis 3:15; John 3:16

Memory Verse: “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son.” – John 3:16

Lesson Focus: From the very beginning, God promised to send a Savior to defeat sin and bring us back to Him.

Faith Connection: Introduces Jesus as the center of the entire Bible story — the promised Redeemer who would come to restore what was lost.

Activity Ideas:

  • “Promise Chain” – make a paper chain where each link represents one of God’s promises.

  • “Heart Cross Craft” – a simple craft showing that Jesus’ love bridges the gap caused by sin.

Parent Connection

Each week includes a short devotion and a “Family Faith Challenge,” such as:

  • Share one thing you are thankful God created.

  • Pray together and thank God for making each family member unique.

  • Talk about ways to obey God each day.

  • Memorize the week’s verse together and display it at home.

Class Summary:

By the end of this four-week class, children will:

  • Know that God is the Creator of all things.

  • Understand that they are made in God’s image and deeply loved.

  • Recognize that sin entered the world but did not stop God’s plan.

  • Begin to see Jesus as the promised Savior from the very start of Scripture.
